The starting point of my research of Anna Magdalena Bach was certainly unusual. I wanted to know more about the mine share owned by Johann Sebastian Bach. In 2010 I discovered some documents in the Freiberg Mining Archive which provided exact details. Here I found mention of the name Johann Sebastian Bach forty-four times in thirteen different contexts. I published the research results in various journals and was awarded the Saxonia-Freiberg-Foundation prize in 2014. My interest in the subject developed into a dissertation. The emphasis shifted to Johann Sebastian Bach’s estate catalogue and the role of his widow in its distribution, and so Anna Magdalena Bach moved more towards the centre of my research. This provided me with a new point of view about her. After the successful defence of my thesis my dissertation was published in a revised form in 2019 with the title "Die verwitwete Frau Capellmeisterin Bach. Studie über die Verteilung des Nachlasses von Johann Sebastian Bach".
